They are accountable for delivering quality nursing care through independent judgment, collaboration, and communication with the healthcare team. This role involves leadership, supervision, and partnership to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse builds strong relationships with patients, families, and other healthcare providers, and demonstrates a commitment to both the community and the nursing profession. **Responsibilities:** + Demonstrates accountability for professional development to enhance practice and patient care. Actively participates in shared governance, goal setting, and change initiatives. + Engages fully as a collaborative and responsive member of the care team. Performs scrub role (required for RNs hired on or after July 1, 2023). + Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. + Zero to two years of nursing experience required. BSN preferred. + Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care based on assigned unit. + Understands principles of growth and development across the lifespan. + Assesses and interprets patient data to meet age-specific needs per department policies. + Builds and maintains positive, caring relationships with staff, departments, and patients/families. + Works effectively in complex environments with changing priorities and specialized equipment. + Exhibits strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Leads others in applying the nursing process. + Requires mobility, manual dexterity, and physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients. + UPMC offers flexible scheduling options including night and weekend programs with premium pay. Nurses must have at least six months of experience to qualify for special scheduling programs. Orientation for these programs may occur during regular business hours. Interested candidates should inform their recruiter during the interview process. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. + Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP) + Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within six months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU. + UPMC approved national certification preferred. *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
