NaphCare is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals in the Facility Name in Facility Location City, State.
As a Correctional Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will work under the supervision of a psychiatrist, alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals, to provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for the facility residents. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have a variety of duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health needs.
ResponsibilitiesThe Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnosing mental health conditions to facility residents that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Additional responsibilities may include and not be limited to:
Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with psychiatric disordersMedication management including prescribing, adjusting and discontinuing medication as neededMaintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notesResponding to psychiatric emergencies, providing immediate interventions and safety protocols within the facilityCoordinate, lead and participate in educational training activities related to mental health careEnsuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standardsCollaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, psychologists, social workers and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and ensuring staff are responsive to patients’ needs QualificationsEducation / Licenses / Certifications
Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)in IACurrent and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in IAA current DEA registration in IAHave a valid CPR card
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications / Skills
Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disordersStrong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals and correctional staffMust possess strong written communication and verbal skills and have strong computer skills.Strong assessment and diagnostic skillsKnowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standardsAble to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential informationDisplay integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirementsMust pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Physical Capabilities:
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
