Job Description
Purpose:
The Research Engineer II will train, deploy, and maintain perception models which include custom YOLOv9 for object detection, SAM2 model for real-time image-based road segmentation, LiDAR-based road boundary segmentation and Ultrafast Lane Detection for lane marking analysis.
Responsibilities:
+ Fusing 2D detections from camera and SAM2 with 3D point clouds using transformation matrices and extrinsic calibrations.
+ Developing and maintaining Docker containers to encapsulate perception models and dependencies for consistent deployment across systems.
+ Deploying the complete perception stack on the AVA Jeep's onboard computer and tuning parameters for optimal real-world performance.
+ Superimpose SAM2 and LiDAR road segmentation outputs to enhance boundary detection reliability.
+ Incorporate temporal filtering and consistency checks for road and object detection across frames.
+ Support integration with planning and control modules using perception outputs.
+ Enhance robustness of the system for non-ideal conditions like adverse weathers and low-light environments.
+ Extend the Docker container builds and dependency management for various AVA system configurations.
+ Continuously identifying and resolving edge cases to ensure robust and efficient real-time performance across all perception models.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
What is needed:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Two years of related experience.
Work Location:
+ Main Campus – College Station, TX.
+ Some positions may have potential for a flexible work schedule or location.
