Job Summary

The research fellow will be engaged in work across Health and Functioning Among Adults with Disability RRTC's research projects, including supporting the development and implementation of an intervention to enhance aging with a physical disability to inform the transition to older adulthood and training activities, including education and capacity building for a variety of stakeholders. Dedicated time will be reserved for the fellow to develop an NIH K award and other career development grants and portfolio items. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunities and associated funds to travel to national conferences for both professional development and to share research.

Candidates must possess a terminal degree in public health, psychology, social work, applied anthropology, medicine, epidemiology, or a related field with a strong interest in aging and / or disability health. Experience conducting qualitative and mixed methods research and developing psychosocial interventions are also desirable. Skill with conducting human subjects research, data management, statistical analysis, and the development of manuscripts is required.  Candidates with educational and / or research knowledge and experience related to issues of aging, disability, and community engagement are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates for this position should be internally motivated, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, with a desire to grow their skill set. They should possess the ability to work flexibly, collaboratively, and simultaneously with multiple researchers, on multiple subcomponents of the grant and possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. This individual will have the opportunity to complete the publication of their dissertation (if needed), engage in additional research and professional development training, and to develop their own (related) publications and grants under the guidance of Dr. Meade in order to develop as an independent investigator. Opportunities to transition to a research track faculty position in PMR exist for candidates who, in addition to the aforementioned qualities, demonstrate the ability to publish in high-quality healthcare journals and develop innovative and fundable grant applications.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, 1 to 2-year term-limited, exempt position. Funding is completely provided through the outside source of the federal research grant - MUSC RRTC. Satisfactory performance in the first year of the fellowship is required for its extension into a second year. Starting salary based on NIH salary guidelines for postdoctoral fellows and will be determined by number of years of postdoctoral experience.

At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and you will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
