Respiratory Therapy Supervisor

Job Summary\:

Under supervision of the Director/Manager of Respiratory Therapy assists in coordinating and supervising the activities of the respiratory care staff. Administers respiratory therapy and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system. Performs diagnostic testingof the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders. Assists in assuring departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Participates and assists in performance improvement activities

Essential Functions\:

Assists in planning, defining, and developing Respiratory Care’s scope of Practice, includingplanning, development, and implementation of new servicesAssists in implementing efficient services or measures commensurate with the hospital’sMission/VisionAssists with planning, coordinating and supervising the activities of the staff during the shiftAssures correct administration of respiratory medications and treatments based on the age of the patient and clinical conditionsAssists in assuring staff competence to perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical care errors including reading and implementing physician orders, drawing and analyzing arterial blood gases, reviewing patient information and determining requirements for appropriate treatment, and operating devices and equipment safely to ensure specified parametersKeeps staff informed of pertinent clinical issuesAssists in assuring adequate and efficient departmental staffing/scheduling to meet changing patient care needsResponsible and accountable for assessing and delegating patient care as it relates to respiratoryEnsures that staff follow departmental and hospital policies and proceduresMaintains effective communication with the staff and administrationSchedules cardiopulmonary procedures for inside/outside sources. Maintains records/reportsInspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper functioning and readiness for patient useInteracts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of careAble to perform and assist in training and evaluation performance on all procedures and tasks of the staff Respiratory Therapist

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations\:

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skillsMust read, write and speak fluent EnglishAbility to demonstrate critical thinking, appropriate prioritization and time management skillsAbility to work under stress and to respond quickly in emergency situationsMust have good and regular attendanceApproximate percent of time required to travel\: 0%Performs other related duties as assigned

Education\:

Respiratory Therapy education as required for attainment of credentialling by the National Board for Respiratory Care

Licenses/Certification\:

Current Respiratory Therapy license from the appropriate state licensing body. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential in compliance with the National Board for Respiratory Care Credential Maintenance Program (CMP). Current BLS and ACLS certifications

Experience\:

Two years of previous experience in all aspects of respiratory care services preferred. Previous leadership experience preferred

Education\:

Respiratory Therapy education as required for attainment of credentialling by the National Board for Respiratory Care

Licenses/Certification\:
