Job Description

The Sawyer is responsible for clearing complex trails at varying grades while felling trees with accuracy to protect on-mountain assets. The Sawyer will be part and take the lead of the build of wood features for the Trails Department. This position reports to the Trails Manager.

Essential Job Functions

Fell trees accurately to avoid lifts, buildings, power lines, etc.Fell trees in challenging conditions such as steep, rocky, slick, tangled, snow covered mountain terrainEvaluate risks in felling conditions, review applicable Job Hazard Analysis and complete Felling Complexity Analysis.Fell, limb and buck timber safely in jack straw or technical conditionsPerform basic maintenance on equipmentAttend annual chain saw safety trainingAttend fire prevention trainingResponsible for the Chainsaw/Brush Saw Equipment of the Department.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or olderValid, current unrestricted Driver’s License requiredHigh school degree or equivalent preferred3 years of saw experience with demonstrated felling ability

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comfortable working on mountain terrain including steep gradesCurrent Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Certification preferredDemonstrates expertise in the technical aspect of the job Ability to work in collaboration with others to achieve team goals Follows all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when working   Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to solve complex issues and find solutions in challenging situations

Work Environment and physical demands 

Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand or be on your feet, kneel and bend for extended periods of time  Regularly work in adverse conditions and required to use protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials as well as an office environment and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces .Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually
