The Dodson, LA lumber manufacturing facility is looking for a skilled Log Scaler. The primary function of a Log Scaler is to safely inspect every load, count the number of stems, inspect logs for specified defects, determine the average length, input the information accurately and efficiently process the loads through the scales.
Key Functions:
Walk in and about logs and view each load to scaleOperate computerized scale to measure load tonnage and input data accuratelyCommunicate with log truck drivers to identify unloading areasVisually check loads of logs for specification accuracyComplete and maintain paperwork and reports indicating loads delivered by contractors, weight per truck, and running inventory of daily receiptsRecord and communicate any load errors for correctionOperate the hydraulic loader to high deck and move oversized logsGeneral maintenance of all equipmentConduct physical inventoriesProcess manual ticketsRoutinely use Microsoft Office applications, Weighwiz and SAPThe Dodson, LA lumber manufacturing facility is looking for a skilled Log Scaler. Ability to intervene with drivers regarding safety behaviors if needed.High School Diploma or GED requiredAbility to pass the Weighmaster exam administered by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF)Highly motivated self-starter who performs well in a team environment, providing a high degree of customer service.Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.Able to handle multiple priorities and take pride in accuracy and quality of work.Able to perform basic math and computer operations.Able to work any shift schedule and weekends/holidays.Ability to work with minimum supervision.Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.Ability to work in extreme heat/or cold/ or wet conditions in an outdoor environmentAbility to perform the essential functions of the position which include fast paced walking, high volume truck load inspections (includes walking front to back of loads), navigating outdoor walkways and surfaces.Desired Skills
