The Security Alarm Monitoring Site Lead supports and oversees 24/7 operations at a high-security facility. The position involves the oversight of active surveillance, access control monitoring, and communications management in support of Norfolk Naval Shipyard/Naval Sea Systems Alarm Monitoring Point (AMP) security mission. Candidates must demonstrate technical proficiency, attention to detail, and emotional composure under pressure. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the activities of Security Alarm Monitoring Specialists. Manage daily shift scheduling and ensure continuous 24/7 coverage (minimum of 2 personnel per shift). Ensure all team members comply with SOPs, security protocols, and mission requirements. Act as the primary liaison with the Government Technical Point of Contact (TPOC). Communicate and report personnel issues, schedule disruptions, or operational risks to the TPOC. Assist in developing and enforcing procedures that enhance site security and operational efficiency. Operate and monitor computerized Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), and Automated Access Control Systems (AACS). Assess and interpret alarms; coordinate appropriate emergency or security response via Radio Dispatch Center (RDC). Utilize access lists to verify clearance status and authorize entry into restricted areas. Maintain and document logs of all alarm activities, hourly surveillance checks, and communications. Respond professionally to non-emergency and emergency calls and direct them to the RDC as required. Operate communications equipment, including radio consoles, portable radios, and secure telephones. Use office equipment such as desktop/laptop computers, printers, fax machines, and scanners. Create, maintain, and organize files and documentation according to SOPs. Prepare supply requisitions for inventory maintenance of consumables and non-consumables. Provide professional and tactful guidance to individuals denied access. Refer complex or unresolved issues to the AMP Site Supervisor or designated authority. Support emergent security incidents and events, including managing area load lists. Maintain consistent work attendance, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 2+ years’ experience in alarm monitoring, physical security, military operations center, emergency communications, or a similar environment. Secret clearance required. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Availability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. Demonstrated proficiency with computer systems, including the ability to quickly learn and operate multiple software systems, databases, and electronic monitoring tools. Ability to assess active situations and make sound, timely decisions under pressure. Skilled in operating alarm monitoring systems, radio equipment, and office technology. Proven ability to supervise personnel and manage daily operations in a security or emergency control environment. Strong judgment under pressure with the ability to escalate or resolve issues appropriately. Excellent oral and written communication skills; professional and tactful in high-stress interactions. Ability to remain alert and make accurate assessments in dynamic or emergent scenarios. Skilled in the use of IDS, CCTV, AACS, and office technologies. Strong ability to manage files, personnel schedules, supply tracking, and compliance documentation. Ability to coach and support team members constructively, accept feedback, and collaborate with government stakeholders. Capable of maintaining composure and professionalism during emergencies and shift work.
