BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Security, the security dispatcher is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of all persons and property within the facilities of Ellis Hospital. The dispatcher is to enforce security and parking policies and procedures along with understanding all Hospital emergency policies and procedures. The dispatcher will coordinate assignments and posts for security officers assigned on the dispatcher’s shifts. The dispatcher will schedule work security officers to certain destinations according to customer requests. The security dispatchers may also be placed into security officer roles when position is not needed due to the Shift Coordinator being on duty. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or work station for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language. Works independently, requesting assistance when needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with the minimum of two years law enforcement or security experience preferred. The individual must possess leadership skills, the ability to delegate authority and mature judgment in all areas of the work assignment. The individual shall be knowledgeable and competent in speaking and writing English and possess basic mathematical skills and must have basic computer skills. Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills and demonstrate knowledge to work with security technology such as camera surveillance and access control systems. Must meet and pass the New York State Security Guard Act requirements. Must possess a valid New York State Motor Vehicle operator license.
MAKING ELLIS EXCEPTIONAL (MEE) BEHAVIORS & STANDARDS
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Responsible for all actions during his shift with running the central security office operations and assignment of posts to Security Officers listed below him Responsible for any reports, maintaining records and logs, forms, completing employee badges, monitoring security cameras, and alarms, Communicating emergencies and incidents to the department/manager on call and/or administrative paperwork completed during his shift. Responsible for overseeing the central security office and communicating/dispatching incidents for security officers to respond to and to communicate with all facilities where security officers are working to communicate/dispatch any related issues or communication needs throughout the shift Responds to all security and safety situations (Hospital Codes) in a timely and appropriate manner and completes and/or reviews all necessary paperwork. Ensures proper supplies are available for use by security and parking staff to include all security and uniform equipment. Ensures staff are at proper posts and following job assignments Initiates and investigates problems or problem areas
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The position is located indoors and/or outdoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull twenty-five lbs., lift/move fifteen lbs. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing and filing, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers, computers and cameras. Dispatchers will have the option to wear OC Spray Gel for self-defense or to protect others who are under immediate physical attack based on competency training completed by the Schenectady Sheriff’s Department or with S&K Prevention. Will have to properly complete training and go through a training which the dispatchers will have to be sprayed with the OC spray gel to properly know how to use and carry this equipment.

Salary Range: $15.84-22.96/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
