We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Senior Manager to lead and coordinate the daily operations of our Washington, DC newsroom. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and seasoned newsroom leader with a deep understanding of national politics, policy reporting, and the fast-paced nature of breaking news. This role requires a collaborative manager who can drive editorial excellence, maintain high journalistic standards, and manage a diverse team of reporters, journalists, assignment editors, and embeds. Responsibilities + Oversee daily editorial planning and news coverage related to Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and national political developments. + Lead a team of journalists, ensuring timely, accurate, and impactful reporting. Collaborate with senior editorial leadership to define and execute coverage priorities and long-term projects. + Serve as a key liaison between reporters, journalists, editors, embeds, and other departments. + Supervise newsroom operations, including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation. + Provide editorial guidance and mentorship to reporters and editors to strengthen story development and reporting rigor. + Monitor breaking news and guide real-time editorial decisions. + Ensure compliance with ethical journalism standards and organizational guidelines. Qualifications + 8+ years of journalism experience, with at least 3 in a leadership or editorial management role. + Strong understanding of U.S. politics, legislative processes, and federal policy issues. + Proven track record in managing editorial teams and high-pressure news cycles. + Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to make fast, sound editorial judgments. + Experience working across multimedia platforms (digital, video, audio preferred). + Bachelor's degree in journalism, political science, communications, or related field (Master’s a plus).
