Shifts: You must be able to work any of the shifts below. * Night shift 7PM-7AM * Day Shift 7AM-7PM * Split Shift (2) day & (2) nights * Requires Saturday availability How you will impact WestRock Our customers count on us to get their boxes right and delivered on time. Our shipping clerks ensure every load gets logged and shipped correctly. As Shipping Clerk, you will be responsible for assisting with the daily activities for all shipping functions of all outgoing products to customers, managing all aspects of shipping and transferring product and materials, verifying and recording information on incoming and outgoing shipments. This is a union job. Richmond Container is a union shop. Virginia is a right to work state; you are not required to join the union however you must respect the Collective Bargaining Agreement. * Schedule inbound and outbound loads/manage inbound and outbound shipments * Maximize trailer utilization and efficiently use trailer pool to reduce costs * Ensure subordinates work safely and contribute to a collaborative safety culture that drives results * Prepare daily and monthly management reports to communicate critical shipping information * Coordinate and monitor courier rates to select the lowest rate to minimize shipping cost and remain within budget * Utilize knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates to determine shipping priorities and methods for delivery to assure on-time delivery and exceptional customer service * Communicate with various levels of management and departments to ensure that goals are accomplished Benefits and Compensation * Great pay and benefits * Health Insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off and other benefits including 401k with company match, Life Insurance, and more the first day of the next month after you complete 30 days * A career with a global packaging company where Sustainability, Safety and Inclusion are business drivers and foundational elements of our daily work What you need to succeed: * High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent * 3 to 4 years of logistics/industrial/shipping experience * Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage tasks effectively * Focus on increasing customer satisfaction by ensuring obligations are met in timely manner * Aptitude to calculate estimated costs associated with the shipping/delivery functions * Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator * Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other managers, staff, and vendors * Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office- Excel, PowerPoint, Word * Well-developed oral and written communication skills * Ability to push, pull, bend, squat, lift, reach and kneel for up to 12 hours a day and push or pull up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis. You must be able to stand for 12-hour shifts. Our plant gets very hot in the summer. We take safety seriously. * Ability to work daily overtime, weekend work and various shifts depending on your position.
