Specialist III - International and Residency Specialist
Requisition: 202500140S Occupational Category (Staff Positions Only): Technical/Para-Professional Hiring Salary: Monthly-Staff Department: Admissions Processing General Requirements: Associates degree in related field. Three years related experience or experience in a related field. Experience in a university admissions or registrar’s office is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered. Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties: Performs advanced specialist duties analyzing applications to determine residency classification and admission eligibility for undergraduate and graduate applicants for the Office of Admissions. Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only): Examines academic records of students to determine eligibility for incoming students to include freshmen, transfer, returning, and international students for admission to the University. Receives, codes, verifies, and processes applications and related documents. Reviews and processes supporting documentation to make initial determination of residency status according to federal, state and university guidelines. Communicates with students regularly regarding documentation to support residency. Reassesses residency status of enrolled students when appropriate. Regularly reviews website to maintain accuracy of residency information. Assists in developing policies and interprets policies and procedures. Evaluates transcripts and third-party evaluations to determine transferability of courses for domestic, international and active-duty military or veteran students. Grants Test of English as a Foreign Language ( TOEFL ) or International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ) waivers according to university guidelines. Collaborates regularly with Office of International Programs ( OIP ) and the Veterans Resource Center to evaluate documentation and establish policies. Studies course prerequisites, degree equivalents, and accreditation of schools, and computes grade point averages to establish student qualifications for admission. Manages requests from academic colleges and Sam Houston State University ( SHSU ) departments for assistance and trouble-shooting record issues. May utilize Ellucian Banner student, Campus Management Radius, document imaging system, COGNOS report systems, Salesforce, ApplyTexas and Common App applications. May process decisions for admission as received from the graduate faculty. Ensures Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ( SACS ) and University Catalog policies are followed. May communicate with other departments, faculty members and/or program advisors. Compiles data from various sources to generate reports. Provides international and residency related training to students, departments, and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.
