Overview Full Time/1.0 FTE Location; Rockford, IL Mulford Clinic The specialty pharmacy technician will participate in advanced roles in all practice settings to expand the scope of pharmacist practice, promote efficiency, and improve patients’ access to care. Individuals in this position will demonstrate a high level of competence and skills in building professional relationships with other members of the healthcare team. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Triage clinical questions or information to a clinical pharmacist or according to policies and accreditation requirements. Coordinate medication synchronization and adherence monitoring. Initiate and follow up on prior authorizations with insurance companies to ensure timely approval of specialty medications. Appeal denied prior authorizations, coordinating with providers or pharmacists to supply necessary documentation. Verify insurance coverage and determine out-of-pocket costs for specialty medications, including tier exceptions if applicable. Coordinate with financial assistance programs, including manufacturer copay cards and foundation support. Process and track specialty medication orders from intake to delivery, including entering prescriptions into pharmacy systems. Coordinate refills and ensure medication delivery schedules align with patient therapy plans. Monitor order status, resolve rejections, back orders, or shipment delays proactively. Identify medications requiring special storage or handling such as refrigerated, hazardous or controlled substances. Responsible for care coordination by communicating with patients, clinic partners, payers and external pharmacies as appropriate. Partner with providers and clinics to promote the use of Mercyhealth pharmacies. Conduct patient outreach as appropriate to promote the use of Mercyhealth pharmacies Under supervision of a pharmacist, provider or delegation protocol/collaborative practice agreement complete assessment and authorize prescription refills for a specific clinic or patient population. Document in the electronic medical record to promote efficient and accurate care for patients in accordance with HIPAA. Follow procedures to ensure medications are dispensed accurately and prepared appropriately for shipment or delivery to the patient. Obtain a medication history and update patient allergy and adverse drug reactions. Perform additional tasks delegated by the pharmacist. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED preferred Graduate of a pharmacy technician program preferred Three years of pharmacy technician experience CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE Pharmacy Technician Certification Board require BLS/CPR within 90 days Illinois Licensure required, if employed in Illinois Wisconsin Pharmacy Technician Registration required, if employed in Wisconsin. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring). Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check. Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
