Sr Mainframe Developer

A client in Cincinnati i seeking a skilled Mainframe Developer to support and enhance commission processing systems within life insurance operations for a direct hire role. This role involves developing and maintaining COBOL-based applications, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for agents and brokers. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with mainframe technologies and a deep understanding of insurance commission structures. Youll work independently, mentor junior developers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM.
Support and enhance commission systems to ensure accurate agent and broker compensation.
Analyze business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex system and programming issues.
Evaluate new application requests and recommend scalable, cost-effective solutions.
Conduct research, analysis, and documentation across all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Recommend and implement hardware and software improvements to optimize performance.
Lead or contribute to technical projects, coordinating with business analysts, QA, and operations teams.
Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date system documentation.
Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance to programming staff.
Continuously seek opportunities to improve system efficiency, automation, and user satisfaction.
Provide regular updates to management and escalate issues when necessary.
