Join our dynamic maintenance team at the Country Fresh plant in Grand Rapids, MI, as a Sr. Controls Specialist (PLC Controls).This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to design, program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC-based automation systems that support the production of fluid milk, cream, and cultured products. We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong background in industrial automation and controls engineering who thrives on problem-solving and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering, this position plays a key role in enhancing our plant’s efficiency and reliability.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Design, develop, and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial automation. Troubleshoot and optimize control systems to enhance efficiency and reliability. Work with cross-functional teams to integrate PLCs with mechanical and electrical systems. Perform system upgrades, debugging, and commissioning within the facility. Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including wiring diagrams, control logic, and schematics. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices. Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations personnel.

Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field is preferred. 3+ years of experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.) Proficiency in HMI/SCADA development (FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.). Strong knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.). Experience with motor controls, VFDs, Sensors, and safety circuits required. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams. AutoCAD experience is required. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
