Structural Engineer - Sustainability Focused

We're seeking a visionary Senior Structural Engineer with a passion for sustainable innovation and systems thinking. In this role, you will lead structural optimization efforts for high-impact, scalable building programs—prioritizing performance, circularity, and carbon reduction across the design lifecycle. You’ll collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to pilot and implement low-carbon materials, refine structural systems, and embed resiliency and adaptability into every facet of design.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead performance-based structural design and material optimization strategies that prioritize sustainability and efficiency.Develop and integrate Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and circular economy principles into structural design templates.Research and specify low-carbon construction materials such as mass timber, low-carbon concrete, and recycled steel.Evaluate and refine alternative structural systems to minimize oversizing, cost, and construction waste.Create decarbonization strategies focused on Scope 3 embodied carbon reductions.Collaborate across disciplines—including architecture, MEP, sustainability, and procurement—to implement carbon-smart structural solutions.Stay at the forefront of materials science and structural innovation to integrate emerging technologies into design processes.Lead the implementation of structural resiliency measures for climate adaptability and long-term durability.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Architectural Engineering (Master’s preferred).7–10 years of experience in building design and construction, with demonstrated leadership in sustainable structural strategies.Deep expertise in structural optimization, embodied carbon, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools and methods.Proficiency in structural analysis and design for seismic, wind, and other environmental loads across diverse building types.Track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects through design and execution phases.Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate sustainability objectives into actionable engineering outcomes.Familiarity with sustainable construction materials, structural innovation, and circular economy integration.Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design and engineering teams.Innovative, research-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to integrating sustainability into large-scale projects.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90.00 - $96.00/hr.
