This position is expected to develop, enhance, implement, and provide direction for Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) Services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employee supervision, education

and training of staff, residents, interns and students, provide leadership and service line development, involvement in quality assessment and process improvement, and serve as an administrative role model. In

addition, they will staff their service area to maintain their competencies in clinical expertise.

Function/Duties of Position

Responsible to provide all clinical duties as outlined in the PBM pharmacist position description including but not limited to being the primary point of contact for staff support and escalated issues from members and providers, prior authorization review, formulary management including drug class reviews/executive summaries, response/resolution to clinical inquiries from members and providers, coordination with claims processor to implement clinical edits and benefit updates. 

Supervision of Staff: Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and supervise assigned staff, develop performance standards, conduct performance appraisals (PE); and recommend salary increases consistent with Hospital policy and procedures. 

Program Design & Development: Develop programs, strategies, facilities and systems for service improvement. Assist in formulary management activities, prior authorization criteria, DUR Board activities, benefit builds and testing support. Develop and monitor performance and quality metrics related to service goals. Participate in the development and implementation of the Department of Pharmacy's strategic plan in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values. Prepare and review policies and procedures as necessary to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and operational efficiencies.

Process Improvement: Develop new and improved services through constant evaluation and innovation to enhance pharmacy services. Establish best practices to improve outcomes. Identify and resolve inefficient work processes and opportunities for value analysis. 

Departmental Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate services in assigned areas with other Pharmacy areas, nursing areas, other Hospital departments, and external agencies to facilitate service line requirements. 

Teaching: Coordinate the education and training of pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students and residents as applicable. Direct the work of students/residents and monitors and evaluates their performance.

Required Qualifications BS or PharmD in PharmacyTwo years or more of pharmacy leadership experience or residency trainingState of Oregon Board of Pharmacy licensureProficiency in an area of clinical pharmacy practice Communication, written, and verbal Contemporary Practice of Pharmacy Preferred Qualifications Managed care residency, advanced degreeManaged care, PBM or health plan experience applicable to practice Additional Details

The supervisor will experience competing demands from pharmacy management, nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals, as they attempt to influence clinical decision-making, clinical policies and practices and work flow. The supervisor must deal with intense situations on a daily basis. In addition, within the healthcare setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace, with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress.
