Role description

Working within our Design & Engineering teams in Australia, you’ll help shape some of the most iconic and transformative infrastructure in the region — from making energy systems more resilient, to supporting Australia’s transition to renewable power and strengthening our communities through sustainable infrastructure.

As a Technical Director within the Energy & Resources team, you will take an influential leading role in projects within the Transmission & Distribution sector while leveraging your experience in the T&D sector in the Australian market to drive business growth.

Role accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead and deliver high-quality primary substation design projects as part of Arcadis Australia's Energy and Resources Team. Provide engineering leadership in preliminary and detailed design of high voltage primary electrical plant, including substations, solar farms, wind farms, and power stations. Prepare and review complex engineering deliverables — including technical reports, specifications, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages. Lead the HV transmission and distribution primary electrical design scope, including layout design, specification of plant and equipment, and coordination with civil, structural, and protection teams. Perform earthing system analysis and design to Australian standards. Take ownership of detailed engineering documentation and provide technical oversight for project teams. Ensure high-quality deliverables for all project design phases, with adherence to relevant codes and standards. Conduct internal reviews and quality checks of designs and calculations. Lead project components including resource planning, subcontractor coordination, client interface, quality assurance, and multidisciplinary design integration. Identify opportunities for design optimisation, efficiency, and technical excellence. Support pursuit of new opportunities, and assist in defining project scope, schedule, budget, and exclusions.  

Qualifications & Experience

We’re seeking energetic individuals with a commitment to excellence and innovation. You’ll need:

At least 20 years’ experience in primary substation design, ideally within a consultancy environment. Previous experience in the Australian power industry such as working for an engineering firm or Australian Transmission utility. Proficiency in CAD and design documentation relevant to the Australian market. Experience in CYMCAP cable rating studies and thermal analysis. Experience with CDEGS for complex earthing and induction modelling. Ability to develop maintenance strategies, commissioning plans, and supporting documentation for utility-scale projects. Significant consulting experience on projects of significant scale and/or complexity.  Demonstrated technical, commercial and delivery acumen. 

Demonstrated ability to lead a project team, with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills; and Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally.
