As a Technical Writer, you will play a crucial role by creating comprehensive and easy-to-understand documentation. Your primary responsibility will be to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and accessible documentation for a diverse audience, including developers, end-users, and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Description:
• Collaborate closely with engineering, software development, and technical staff to gather information and develop high-quality technical and end-user documentation for complex software systems• Serve as the lead writer for deliverables of substantial scope and complexity, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency across all documentation• Prepare, review, revise, and maintain a wide range of technical documentation, including but not limited to: system design specifications, software and systems engineering documentation, operational guides, testing procedures, training manuals, and user guides• Capture detailed meeting minutes, including discussion topics, decisions made, and action items, and distribute them to stakeholders in a timely manner• Create weekly summary presentations and status briefings that clearly communicate progress, issues, and key activities to both internal teams and customer stakeholders• Develop and distribute “read-ahead” materials in advance of meetings to support informed discussion and decision-making by customer and leadership personnel• Maintain and update documentation to reflect ongoing system enhancements, configuration changes, and issue resolutions throughout the software lifecycle• Develop and manage standardized documentation templates and formatting guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance across all written deliverables• Prepare and submit documentation packages that fulfill Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables and meet contractual timelines and quality expectations• Respond to customer inquiries related to documentation and provide professional, clear, and timely communication to support stakeholder engagement and satisfaction• Support the continuous improvement of technical communication practices, tools, and processes across the project or organization
Material & Equipment Directly Used:
Computer, Phone, and basic office materials.
Working Environment:
• Function in an office environment in a stationary position approximately 50 percent of the time or more. • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, copy machine, and printer. • Must be able to travel to customer sites and test events to support cybersecurity testing events.
Qualifications
Education / Certifications: • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field.• Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
Experience:
• 3–5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting software development, systems engineering, or IT-related programs• Hands-on experience writing and maintaining technical documentation such as:o Software user guideso System administration manualso Installation and configuration instructionso Test plans and procedureso Engineering change documentation• Proven ability to capture and summarize technical meetings, including drafting detailed meeting minutes, tracking action items, and synthesizing technical discussions• Experience working with engineering teams, software developers, and testers to extract and clarify technical information• Experience creating customer-facing presentations, weekly activity summaries, and briefings for leadership or stakeholders• Comfort working in Agile or iterative development environments, including familiarity with backlogs, user stories, and sprint planning artifacts• Experience using collaboration and document management tools like SharePoint, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, or Jira• Ability to adapt content for technical and non-technical audiences, and across various document types (e.g., formal, training, executive-level)
