REPAIR SHOP TECHNICIAN

Reports to: Steven Hensley, QC/Test Supervisor

Location: Forest Park, GA - Repair Shop - General Services Headquarters

Technician, Repair Shop - Test

Locations: Gen Service Headquarters-Forest Park

This position will be filled at either Non-Exempt 8 or 9, depending on the successful candidate's experience and skills.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Position is responsible for test activities for the Repair Shop including but not limited to: initial receipt testing of transmission and distribution class electrical apparatus (i.e. transformers, regulators, CTs, PTs), induced testing on power transformers in the field, various electrical testing on repaired/refurbished transmission and distribution class electrical apparatus .

 

Typical tests performed: ratio, phase displacement, insulation and winding resistances, power factor (Doble), controls and alarm checks, and oil quality.

 

Candidate must be available to work day shifts and overtime; evenings or weekends may be required as needed.


On call rotation for emergency call-in is required; candidate must carry a company issued phone and be available to work rotations as scheduled.  

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED 2-year degree (Electronics Technology or similar) or 4 years relevant experience is preferred. TECH test required - this pre-employment test will be administered after posting concludes; if you are NOT already test qualified you will be invited to test. Electrical experience is highly preferred. Familiarity with testing medium and high voltage electrical apparatus is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work with limited supervision. Must be able to prioritize and manage concurrent test activities. Basic knowledge of test equipment. Basic knowledge of IEEE/ANSI testing procedures. Ability to follow written test procedures and guidelines to perform testing as designed. Awareness to recognize potential dangers associated with testing and how to mitigate these dangers. Must work safely around other Shop personnel Ability to understand the "how's" and "why's" that pertain to equipment testing. Knowledge of basic electrical principles. Must be able to meet the following physical requirements, including, but not limited to: climbing, lifting, bending, standing for all hours of shifts, moving equipment up to 50 lbs., i.e. physical labor. Must be willing to work in various outside weather conditions including heat and cold. Must have a valid driver's license. Basic computer skills are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform initial receipt testing on transmission and distribution electrical apparatus in accordance with established procedures. Perform testing on testing on repaired/refurbished transmission and distribution electrical apparatus in accordance with established procedures. Document tests and communicate results to the test supervisor, principal engineer and appropriate production supervisors or specialists as required. Responsible to assure test equipment is maintained and calibrated for daily use. Review and/or revise test procedures to assure tests are applied per engineering design. Follow safe work practices in accordance with our Safety Excellence goals.
