Job Title: Wetland ScientistJob Description We are seeking a knowledgeable Wetland Scientist to join our environmental team. This role involves wetland and stormwater permitting, completing wetland determinations, delineations, and designing and monitoring wetland mitigation. The ideal candidate will conduct floristic quality assessments, take plant inventory, perform tree surveys, review threatened and endangered species, and identify and control invasive species. Responsibilities + Conduct wetland delineations and assessments. + Manage stormwater and wetland permitting processes. + Design and monitor wetland mitigation projects. + Perform floristic quality assessments and plant inventories. + Conduct tree surveys and reviews of threatened and endangered species. + Identify and control invasive species. + Ensure compliance with soil erosion and sediment control best management practices. + Perform erosion and sediment control inspections. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related field. + At least four years of experience in wetland delineation, assessments, and permitting. + Proficiency in native plant identification. + Understanding of soil erosion and sediment control best management practices. + Experience in permit compliance and erosion control inspection. + Strong written and verbal communication skills. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel. + Understanding of health and safety protocols. + Ability to travel 25%-50% (primarily local). Additional Skills & Qualifications + Master's degree in a relevant field is a strong advantage. + Lake County Designated Erosion Control Inspector (DECI) certification, or progress towards it, is desirable. + Other soil erosion and sediment control certifications (e.g., CPESC, CESSWI) are beneficial. Work Environment This position is based in Naperville and is part of the environmental team focusing on wetland and stormwater work. The role operates on a hybrid schedule, typically requiring office presence three days a week, with a field-to-office ratio that varies seasonally. Fieldwork occurs 2-3 times a week and does not usually require overnight travel. The team shares a company car, but personal vehicle use is sometimes required, with mileage reimbursement provided.
